…A Manner Worthy of the Gospel
Recently, an issue came up during selection of sponsors for a confirmation candidate. Over the course of 50+ years the sponsor led an honorable, spiritually faithful, and upstanding life. But of course, with any life filled with many years, there were a few minor glitches that were not in line with church expectations. It is of utmost obedience that we must adhere to doctrine of church and God.
At the center of this decision though, was the heart of this sponsor. She is honest and moral. She has ethics and is sincere. She sought approval on whether or not she could act as a sponsor instead of brushing off the significance of Catholic guidelines. This act alone exemplifies her personal character as a child of God.
So when the question was posed to the priest, he simply responded: “Would Jesus say “no” to her?” The implied answer to that question let me know that the Gospel was in full effect and Jesus was right there. There was no confusion.
The Lord is Merciful,
