…A Silent Welcome

I always smile when meeting people, whether I know them or not.  It displays our humanity in care and interest in the other person.  It also relieves stress, lessens pain, is a mood enhancer and is quite contagious.  Needless to say, a smile goes a long way and can be a spiritual touch for so many.  Today I had that effect shown to me unexpectedly.  While out running errands, I stopped at a salon to make an appointment for one of my daughters.  It would be a birthday surprise! While I was being waited on at the counter, there were people coming and going tending to their clients but it was one person who stood out. It was someone I neither knew nor I had ever seen before.  He was neither old nor young, handsome or ugly, tall or short, dark or light.  He just came around the counter pretty quickly to go to his station, but he paused and met me with a happy, courteous smile.  Of course, I returned the smile.  A smile is always welcoming but it was the genuine sincerity in his eyes that made me consider that his smile was especially special.
