…What Matters

Reflection from a year ago:

Today, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King,  the social feeds have been swarming with memes, quotes, photos, rallies, etc.  This one caused me to pause and consider.   Dr. King’s vision was for racial equality.  He became the appointed leader to bring forth an important change to social inequality among the nation’s black population.  He was not quiet or silent. He used his God-given voice and theological knowledge to promote peace and equality – the way Jesus demonstrated – without violence.  Where Dr. King saw and lived injustices, he did not remain quiet or silent but he brought attention to these matters, also without violence. He employed Christian methods, courage, strategy and even style.

What matters to me, is people returning to God or at least for the believers, bringing Him from the back burner to the front burner and allowing Him to simmer all day in their heart, soul and mind.  What matters to me, is sharing Jesus with people who are not consciously aware of God in their lives. Most importantly, what matters to me is introducing Jesus to those who have never opened their gift of faith.

We can remain silent in things that matter, but the horrendous outcome is that people will suffer.   For Dr. King, it mattered that all people are equal. He is echoing the same sentiments as Jesus. God loves everyone equally regardless of race or gender, class or title, ability or handicap, those who believe and even those who don’t.

Kyrie Eleison,

Paula
