…Counting Chickens-Wait, Blessings

For the last three weeks, I have been counting chicken eggs! One of my hens, Sophia, has been sitting on fertilized eggs and we are expecting baby chicks! Over the course of the weeks, there were times that she came off the eggs to take a bath, have some food, water and stretch her legs.  If I was lucky enough to be outside during her breaks, I ran to the coop to count the eggs and check for any damaged ones! First there was 6, then 9, then 8, then 10, (the other hens will lay their eggs in the same box) then 9 again, then 8 again…and holding strong. Today was a big day as there is one baby chick hatched and Sophia is still attentively sitting on the other 7 eggs (which I checked and counted, of course) so there is a good chance, more will hatch!  More little blessings!

Unfortunately, it seems easier to dwell on what we need rather than what we already have or the blessings that are coming!

I need to focus on counting my own daily blessings everyday, multiple times a day, or at least as much as I count these little protein ovals!

But still, today, I did have one additional little blessing…

and for that I am thankful to God.
