…No Service To Small

I was having a discussion with my daughter Hannah about vocations, service, and what that entails.  We spoke about Mary, the mother of Jesus in service to God and humanity, Mother Teresa serving the poorest in slums of Calcutta, to a husband and wife serving their family with a stable, healthy upbringing, and even a child helping another child in school or placing a few coins in the poor box.

Everyone is able to serve in some degree. We all possess this universal talent; “We all have the ability to make a difference in other people’s lives.”1  From our own families and friends to acquaintances and strangers, we can offer something of ourselves that helps another.

God may not have chosen me to be the next Mother Teresa, because He already chose her for that particular task, so he has given me a different talent to use in His service.   No matter how inconsequential the task may seem to me, I know it is viewed graciously in the eyes of the Lord because it is done for Him and His family.
