…To Wander Through Space
Recently, my family visited the local planetarium. It’s always so fascinating to discover what astronomers are finding within the heavens and the numerous galaxies that seem to be discovered each day. It is so vast and infinite. There is so much space measured in years that a human could never experience. We usually ask, “Why am I here?” but today I questioned “Why is all that celestial space there and for what purpose?”
As I sat there watching the projected universe move over the planetarium dome, I wondered if our little planet Earth was more of a “misfit island”, a “holding tank” or our “proving ground” to yet another stop in the universe. We are told that being here, in this life now on Earth, is just a portion of our journey. God is the key to unlock this mystery and our destiny to this unfathomable landscape. As my theology professor attested, “There’s no better place to wander into theological/spiritual musings than a planetarium – and even better a real observatory. I have had some mighty awesome experiences with viewing out into the vast cosmos.”
I can only imagine. I truly just need to look up at the sky, whether in light of day or by luminous stars of night, and I’m in awe. Anything is possible with this magnificent creation. One thing is for certain, God is as boundless as the infinite universe that He created.
Lord Have Mercy,
