…Keep Eyes on Jesus
Reflection from one year ago:
The other day while scrolling through Facebook, someone posted a newspaper clipping from November 23, 1950. As per many stories, they found the paper tucked into some wall space while renovating. As I read the names of the teenage high school football players photographed, I realized one was the other half of a well liked and well known couple in town. They are now in their 80’s but still involved with the Catholic church music ministry and the town’s food pantry. I got to know him from community business and her from the church. She is the energizer bunny and I’m amazed at how much and how well she still continues to serve. She has been involved in this Catholic community, as she says, from birth and has seen many conflicts, frustrations, disappointments as well as many happy and joyful times throughout the many years.
One day while at work, she came in to visit. She was aware of some negative attitudes presented and offered this simple piece of advice that she had heard from a cherished deacon: “Keep your eyes on Jesus”.
I find myself using that remembrance often in personal, as well as, professional struggles. The simple phrase refocuses me to Jesus and the exposure to His light.
Kyrie Eleison,
